Organizer

The International Telekom Beethoven Competition Bonn is organized by the Internationale Beethovenfeste Bonn (IBFB) gGmbH on behalf of Deutsche Telekom AG. The IBFB gGmbH is the sole contractual partner of the participant, unless otherwise noted in the conditions of entry.

Eligibility for participation

The International Telekom Beethoven Competition Bonn 2017 is open to pianists from all nations, as well as stateless persons, who were born between 1985 and 1999 inclusive and are between 18 and 32 years old at the time of the competition. Pupils of a jury member at the time of application, or those who have been pupils of a jury member for at least one year during the four years preceding the competition, are not eligible to enter. Also ineligible are prizewinners (1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes) of the International Telekom Beethoven Competition in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015.
A selection commission will choose 24 participants from all the completed registration forms received; the selected entrants will be invited to the first round in Bonn.

Receipt of the registration will be confirmed in writing as soon as we have received all the documents and the registration fee. Incomplete application documents and incorrect data may result in the applicant not being admitted to the competition. All documents will be treated as confidential and returned to applicants upon request after the competition has finished. The International Telekom Beethoven Competition Bonn accepts no liability for lost originals.

Qualification round

Along with their registration documents, applicants must submit one or more video recordings in which they can be clearly seen and heard playing the repertoire. The programme can be found in the repertoire list under “Qualification round”. A selection commission will decide who should be admitted to the competition. 28 participants will be chosen. If all the conditions of entry are met, the choice will be made on the basis of the recordings. Entrants will be notified in writing of the decision by June 15, 2017. No explanations will be given.
Successful applicants from abroad can use this confirmation to apply for their entry visa, if they require one.

Main round

The selection of winners will take place over four rounds of public competition, known as the Main Round, from 1 to 9 December 2015. Competitors must undertake to keep their calendars free of other, conflicting engagements during this time. The organizers must be notified in writing of any withdrawal without delay. A doctor’s note is required in the case of illness.
The order of performance will be decided by lot at a reception for competitors on November 30, the day of arrival. The order will be maintained throughout the competition. The repertoire and the listed requirements are mandatory for the competition programme. The jury reserves the right to interrupt any performance that overruns. With the exception of contemporary works composed after 1980, the solo repertoire is to be performed from memory in all competition rounds. The competitors will have the opportunity to practise on site. In the first and second rounds of the competition in Bonn one participant will be chosen by internet vote based on a livestreaming of the competition rounds. Participants may not have any contact with jury members during the competition.

Arrival and Accommodation

Participants should arrive on Thursday, November 30, 2017 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to They register personally at the competition office and present a valid photo ID.
Travel arrangements must be made by participants themselves. Participants will be reimbursed only for the shortest route between their place of residence and the competition venue.

Travel costs will be reimbursed as follows:
- Max. EUR 250.00 for participants from European countries
- Max. EUR 500.00 for participants from non-European countries
Please note that event organizers will only accept original documents (no photocopies) for the reimbursement of travel costs.

All candidates admitted to the competition will be offered free accommodation with a host family organized by the International Telekom Beethoven Competition Bonn for the duration of the competition. There will be a piano in all hosting families. Participants who prefer to stay in a hotel must bear the costs themselves. The project office will be glad to help in the choice of a hotel.
The organizers will not pay for the travel, board and lodging of accompanying persons, nor can host families accommodate them.

Collection of data and data privacy

We record, use and store data solely for the purposes of holding the competition, organizing follow-up events with the winner, and inviting participants to attend future rounds of the International Telekom Beethoven Competition Bonn. Such data will be deleted as soon as a participant exceeds the age limit for competing in the International Telekom Beethoven Competition Bonn. The data will not be disclosed to third parties.
You may at any time withdraw permission, in writing, for the further use of your data by the IBFB gGmbH.

Consent form

By signing the application form, participants agree to the following terms and conditions.
The repertoire submitted by the applicant with the application is binding. Retrospective alterations are not possible.
There will be no refund of the application fee if the applicant does not participate. The winner of the first prize pledges him or herself to perform with the Beethoven Orchester Bonn at the ‘BeethovenNacht’ in December 2018 in Bonn for no fee. However, there shall be no right on the part of the winner to take part thus. Furthermore, prizewinners commit themselves to perform at a concert of the Deutsche Telekom AG in 2018 for no fee.

Rights

By taking part in the competition, performers accept that IBFB gGmbH and/or its agents may make video and/or audio recordings and/or take photographs (referred to collectively as ‘recordings’) of the performances.
The participant grants IBFB gGmbH and Deutsche Telekom AG the exclusive right, unlimited in time and sub-licensable to third parties, to use the recordings and/or extracts thereof in all media, in particular to reproduce and broadcast/re-broadcast the recordings, as well as to make them publicly available and play them back in public. The above also includes the right to broadcast/re-broadcast the recordings live and/or at a later date on television and/or radio, as well as to make them publicly available on the internet and mobile portals.
It also includes the right to copy the recordings onto DVD and/or CD and to distribute these recordings for a fee or free of charge. Participants will receive free copies of the DVD and/or CD recordings for their private use (but not for distribution).
For the purposes mentioned above, IBFB gGmbH and Deutsche Telekom AG may also cut and edit the recordings, respecting the rights of the artist to his or her personal integrity.

The above rights shall be granted free of charge as a condition of participation in the competition.
 

Note: If there should be any doubts regarding the interpretation of the competition terms and conditions, the German text alone shall be legally binding. IBFB gGmbH reserves the right to make reasonable changes to the schedule and the programme. The decisions of the jury are final; there shall be no recourse to any court of law.
