2005 Competition

Beethoven and Bonn – the link between the genius and his birthplace proved to be a rare stroke of luck, as the first International Beethoven Competition for Piano in Bonn far exceeded all expectations.

The first Beethoven Competition Bonn took place under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Horst Köhler, President of the Federal Republic of Germany and was supported by members of the Honorary Committee. These included Vladimir Ashkenazy, Alfred Brendel, Bruno Leonardo Gelber, Kurt Masur, Krzysztof Penderecki, Wolfgang Rihm und Mstislav Rostropovich †.
