In December 2009, the international competition for up-and-coming young pianists sponsored by Deutsche Telekom AG was held for the third time, under its new name of International Telekom Beethoven Competition Bonn.
A total of 6,350 visitors attended the very eventful and artistically impressive qualification rounds ‘live’. In an exciting final on December 12, 2009, the prominent international jury selected this year’s prizewinners at the sold-out Beethovenhalle in Bonn: Hinrich Alpers from Germany won first prize, Jordi Bitlloch from France second prize, and Einav Yarden from Israel third prize.
The third Telekom Beethoven Competition enjoyed the patronage of Prof. Horst Köhler, President of the Federal Republic of Germany. The Honorary Committee consisted of Vladimir Ashkenazy, Alfred Brendel, Bruno Leonardo Gelber, Kurt Masur, Krzysztof Penderecki, Wolfgang Rihm, the late Mstislav Rostropovich, and Rodion Shchedrin.
On the following pages you will find more details of the program, with lists of the participants, the accompanying artists and the jury.
