Young people are in demand. After all, there is a shortage of qualified employees in many sectors. One study predicts that there will be two million unfilled positions by 2020. This makes it even more pleasing to see committed, gifted young people with perseverance. The companies have a duty to help these young people start their careers and to give them prospects for their lives. Such commitment to young people is also needed in the cultural sphere. Every generation of artists has its own unique interpretation of music, brining new impetus and ideas into the world’s concert halls.
Deutsche Telekom has been committed to sponsoring up-and-coming young pianists since 2005. A total of 28 pianists from 13 countries took part in the third competition in 2009 alone. Over 6,500 listeners witnessed the young artists’ skills in numerous concerts. Each of the prizewinners delighted the audience and the excellent jury with his or her unique style.
After three successful editions, the International Telekom Beethoven Competition Bonn has established itself as a top class competition for young talent. The numerous concert appearances already agreed for the future prizewinners show how much confidence is placed in the quality of the competition worldwide. We at Deutsche Telekom are delighted by this success and will consequently continue to support young talent. We intend to keep on providing them with an opportunity to prove themselves on the world’s great stages.
The competition also allows us to preserve the musical heritage of Ludwig van Beethoven in his home town of Bonn. His music remains as lively and modern today as it was in the past. We eagerly await the launch of the Telekom Beethoven Competition on December 2, 2011 and look forward to many inspiring concerts.
