From classical music to rock, from Tutankhamen to the Guggenheim, Deutsche Telekom has committed itself to the arts. Music and art exist to bring people together.
Deutsche Telekom has been a patron of the arts for many years and considers its involvement to be a core element of its corporate social commitment. As an international communications company, Deutsche Telekom is keen to encourage lively cultural exchanges and spark debate while ensuring the arts are accessible to a wider audience. Deutsche Telekom underpins this ambition with initiatives involving partners from the German and international arts and cultural scene.
In 2007, for example, Deutsche Telekom supported the exhibition of the most beautiful French masterpieces from New York (“Die schönsten Franzosen kommen aus New York”) in the form of a technical partnership with the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin. The exhibition featured 19th century French masterpieces on loan from New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. In 2006/2007, the Group was the main sponsor of “The Guggenheim Collection”, an exhibition that visited the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn. The focus of this commitment was on mass communication and marketing of the exhibition. Another highlight of Deutsche Telekom’s arts sponsorship program was the exhibition “Tutankhamen – The Golden Beyond“, held in Bonn in 2004/2005. The company was once again the main sponsor of the event, enabling almost a million people to admire the treasures from the legendary Pharaoh’s tomb and other precious artifacts from the Valley of the Kings.
A tradition of culture
Deutsche Telekom also has a long history of promoting classical music: the company has sponsored the highly-regarded Beethoven festival in Bonn since 1999, which has gone on to become a fixture on the German music scene. As part of the festival, concerts are held at Deutsche Telekom’s Headquarters and in the T-Mobile Forum.
In order to unearth and nurture talented young pianists, Deutsche Telekom has held the International Telekom Beethoven Competition every two years since 2005. Deutsche Telekom also supports the internationally renowned Ruhr Piano Festival, which features established performers alongside many promising newcomers.
Apart from classical music, Deutsche Telekom also supported both German and international stars for many years through its T-Mobile brand, and sponsors festivals like "Rock am Ring" at the Nürburgring. The "T-Mobile street gigs" kicked off a separate series of concerts, while the "T-Mobile extreme playgrounds" regularly attract thousands of fans with their mix of action sports and music, and Electronic Beats, an international music community program, sets new standards for international festivals.
Together with Deutsche Post, Deutsche Telekom sponsors the ‘Museum Foundation for Posts and Telecommunications’, which runs museums of communications in Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Nuremberg, as well as the Philately Archive in Bonn. The museums stage attractive exhibitions that stimulate dialog on the history and future of communications.
