Patroness of International Telekom Beethoven Competition 2019

Isabel Pfeiffer-Poensgen

Isabel Pfeiffer-Poensgen, Minister of Culture and Science, North Rhine-Westphalia

Dear music-lovers, fellow pianists and honoured guests,

Bonn is getting ready for a special event. In 2020 we will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven. So it's only fitting that while our preparations are underway the familiar events will take place that have for years sustained the high artistic level associated with the name of Beethoven. Among them are the annual Bonn Beethovenfest and the regular events at the Beethovenhaus. Another is the International Telekom Beethoven Competition, where every two years a special emphasis is placed on Beethoven's piano music. For this competition young pianists come to Bonn from every corner of the globe to display their artistry and to maintain and promote the classic legacy of Beethoven's piano music. I'm especially delighted at the great acclaim this competition has achieved worldwide. As we have seen in the past, it gives special impetus to the contestants' personal development. And as ever, Bonn audiences can look forward to superb piano recitals!
