Wanting Cheng

Originally from Chongqing, China, pianist Wanting Cheng has mesmerized audiences with a rare combination of interpretive insight, musical sensitivity and pianistic command.

Recently completed her master degree, Wanting has studied at the Hochschule für Musik „Hanns Eisler” Berlin, with Professor Kirill Gerstein. Her previous education includes Manhattan School of Music New York with Professor Jeffrey Cohen, and the affiliated middle school the Central Conservatory of Music Beijing with Professor Zhiwei Zhang.

Wanting has won several prizes including the winner of the 2017 Dora Zaslavsky Koch Concerto Competition, the 2nd place at the 'Cadanza Cup' National Piano Competition in China, the winner of the Lilian Fuchs Chamber Music Competition in 2016 and 2015. She has also received awards and scholarships such as the Lucia Loeser Stipendiums in 2021, the 2017 Roy M. Rubenstein-Award, and full scholarship from the Edith Kriss Scholarship from 2013 to 2019.

Currently, Wanting is pursuing the Konzertexamen degree at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater „Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Leipzig, under the tutelage of Professor Jacques Ammon.
