Alexander Bernstein is currently pursuing a Doctorate at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin, Ireland under the tutelage of John O’Conor. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Harvard University in May 2010 where he studied privately with Stephen Drury of the New England Conservatory. He also completed a Master’s Degree in Piano Performance at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in 2012 and an Artist Diploma at Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, Virginia in 2016.
The San Francisco native began piano lessons at age 7, later moving to Walla Walla, Washington where he studied for nine years in the studio of Debra, Bakland. Upon admission to Harvard, Bernstein began studying piano with Patricia Zander of the New England Conservatory until 2008.
After making his symphonic debut in 1999, he has performed concerti with several orchestras in the US and Europe, and has given solo recitals in 13 countries. Bernstein has had success in competitions, winning 2nd Prize in the 2018 ClaviCologne Competition, 2nd Prize in the 2016 Euregio Piano Award, 3rd Prize in the 2015 Gian Battista Viotti International Piano Competition, 3rd Prize in the 2015 Verona International Piano Competition, and 2nd Prize in the 2015 Dublin International Piano Competition.
