Ian Yungwook Yoo

Ian Yungwook Yoo studied at the famous Juilliard School in New York with Jerome Lowenthal from 1996 to 2001. He continued his studies with Solomon Minkovsky at the Manhattan School of Music, where he did his Master of Music in 2004, and where he is currently a PhD student as a recipient of the Elva Van Geldar Memorial Scholarship.

Ian Yungwook Yoo has been successful in several competitions. By the unanimous vote of the jury, he won first prize at the 13th Santander International Piano Competition 1998 in Spain, second prize at the International E-Competition 2005 in the USA and, most recently, fourth prize at the Richter Competition 2006 in Russia. In 2001 Ian Yungwook Yoo recorded piano transcriptions of songs by Franz Liszt under the Naxos label.

He performed at Wigmore Hall in London, Carnegie Hall New York and at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig.

As a soloist Yungwook Yoo has been invited to numerous international festivals like Klavier-Festival Ruhr and Berliner Begegnungen.
Since 2009 Ian Yungwook Yoo is professor for piano at Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea.
