Jinsang Lee

Jinsang Lee’s musical talent had already been widely recognized by winning top prizes at a number of international piano competitions including 1st Prize at the Hong Kong International Piano Competition (2008) chaired by Vladimir Ashkenazy; 1st Prize, Scarlatti Prize and Orchestra Prize at the International Pianoforte Competition Cologne in Germany (2005) followed by a number of top prizes back home in Korea. In 2009 he came to recognition with a triumphant success at the Concours Géza Anda in Zurich by winning the 1st prize as well as all three special prizes. Jinsang‘s passion in searching for the perfect sound has also led him to a bit of unusual path.

He learned the piano manufacturing and techniques himself by working at Steinway Austria under the guidance of master piano technician Stefan Knüpfer seeking to better understand the piano as a living instrument. With these special insights, he continues his rich concert career. Starting his musical education with Daejin Kim in Korea, Jinsang continued his studies in Germany with Wolfgang Manz and Julia Goldstein, before completing his studies with Pavel Gililov in Austria. An active and passionate chamber musician, he is a member of Beethoven Trio Bonn and performs frequently in various chamber music concerts. Their recording of complete Beethoven piano trio pieces is expected to be released in 2020. Jinsang is also currently a professor at Korea National University of Arts.

In 2023, he will be a member of the selection committee that will determine in early summer 2023 which 28 pianists will be invited to the main round in Bonn.
