Ben Cruchley

Toronto-born pianist Ben Cruchley is currently studying with Benedetto Lupo in Rome at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. Previously he studied with Dang Thai Son at the Université de Montréal, and with Marc Durand at the Glenn Gould School in Toronto. As a soloist, Ben has appeared with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and will appear with the Orchestre de l’Université de Montréal in 2015.

He was awarded First Prize at the inaugural Chinese Cultural Centre Music Festival in 2012, and in 2013 was the recipient of the Bourse Gelinas during his studies in Montréal. He has had the opportunity to participate in master classes of Leon Fleisher, Sergei Babayan, Anton Kuerti, and Jacques Rouvier.

Ben Cruchley is distinguished for the breadth of his musical experience. In addition to a strong commitment to chamber music, he has ample experience in the domains of contemporary music, improvisation, orchestral arranging, as well as opera, having served as assistant conductor and repetiteur on numerous occasions. He attained proficiency on the cello, and, many years ago, even had a fine soprano voice.
