Hinrich Alpers

Beethoven Competition prize-winner Hinrich Alpers has recorded all of the symphonies by Beethoven in Franz Liszt's transcription for piano to mark the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven's birth: A huge project, which could also be realized with the support of Deutsche Telekom AG. The cycle comprises a total of six CDs, has been released by Sony Music and produced in collaboration with Deutschlandfunk Kultur. "I am very happy to be able to make this contribution in the Beethoven anniversary year," Hinrich Alpers said in an interview with Deutschlandfunk Kultur. Beethoven has been one of the focal points of Hinrich Alpers' repertoire since the beginning of his international career as a pianist.

Fono Forum comments on Hinrich Alper's version:

»The special feature of this recording is that Alpers presents the finale of Liszt's arrangement of the Ninth in a version of his own, which on the one hand makes the vocal texts printed in the score sound again and on the other hand adapts the piano part in such a way that there is no duplication of piano and vocal parts.«
