Dongyuan Sun is currently studying at The Juilliard School with Hung-Kuan Chen. At age eleven, she furthered her musical journey at the Fondazione Accademia Internazionale di Imola “Incontri col Maestro” in Italy under the guidance of Jin Ju and Stefano Fiuzzi, where she studied both fortepiano and piano. She also studied with Matti Raekallio in the Pre-College Division of Juilliard. Dongyuan began her studies at age five and was admitted to the Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM) in Beijing, where she studied with Jin Zhang.
Dongyuan’s performance career has taken her to major stages worldwide, including Lincoln Center in New York, The Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing, and venues across Italy, Poland, Austria, and Germany. She has appeared as a soloist with prestigious orchestras such as the China Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto in G
Minor, and has collaborated with renowned conductors like Alexander Lonquich in performances of Mozart’s Piano Concerto K. 459.
A passionate advocate for chamber music, Dongyuan frequently leads ensembles at The Juilliard School. Her chamber repertoire spans iconic works, such as Bartók’s Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion and Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio in C Minor, as well as captivating and lesser-known compositions by Chinese composers and those from her peers' homelands.
Beyond her performance career, Dongyuan is a devoted writer. At thirteen, she translated Rabindranath Tagore’s Stray Birds into Chinese and continues to write short stories, poetries, and prose inspired by the piano repertoire she explores. Her deep connection between literature and music enriches her artistry, allowing her to infuse her performances with narrative depth and emotional storytelling.Beyond her performance career, Dongyuan is a devoted writer.
