Yijia Chen was born in Shanghai in 2005. Since young, he showed wonderful talent for music as he made his performance debut at the age 5. One year after, he started his piano training with the renowned Chinese composer Wang Jianzhong and became his last disciple. At 8, he won the Excellent Performance Award of the 4th KAWAI Asia Piano Competition and was then admitted by The Music Middle School Affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and studied with Dr. Huang Shuo. In the same year, he performed works by Mussorgsky, Bach and Grieg at the Opening Ceremony of the Nordic International Piano Competition in Malmo, Sweden and received a huge success. He later won the Excellent Performance Award of the Music Middle School Affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music National Youth Piano Competition. In 2023, he successfully entered the Shanghai Conservatory of Music with excellent results, and currently studies with Dr. Hao Duanduan. In 2024, he won two special prizes of the 16th International competition of Orlean.
Chen has a versatile performing experience, such as his recital of Franz Liszt’s works in Shanghai Concert Hall and Suzhou Bay Grand Theatre in 2021; he also founded “The One" Ensemble with other youth performers and gave concerts of French chamber pieces by Francis Poulenc,Gabriel Fauré, and Jean Francaix. His performance are always warmly received by the audience and he was praised by Boris Berman, Liu Shikun, Vadim Rudenko, Michel Dalberto,Jean François Heisser and Michel Kiener.
